In the mean time...
you-mix.com is intended to be a community of electronic composers, where users can create and submit material to be critiqued and commented
on by other members, exchange tips and tricks, discuss software and hardware, etc..
The central focus will be monthly exercises in composition with certain rules or themes, and one very important restriction: Composing using only a pre-defined set of samples/sounds. The samples will be provided by the user community, and will need to be original, non-copyrighted recordings. Drum loops, voices, nature sounds, synth loops, noise...
When composing, the sounds can be manipulated, chopped, sliced, reversed, run through twenty effects processors, whatever you'd like - as long as all the sounds you use are the provided source samples.
The Current Mix page will show the current mix, what stage it's in, and if applicable, links to samples to download for use in your mix/submission. When the site is fully operational, mixes will be timed. Three weeks for downloading and creating a mix, and one week for fellow users to listen to submissions and comment/rate the submitted tracks. Submissions will not be available for users to review until the final week of the mix, and afterward will be accessed with the Prior Mixes link.If you'd like to get started, you-mix.0 is in progress on the Current Mix page.
